How Detoxing Can Help you Boost your Fertility Health

A while back I talked to you about cleanses and firmly believe that they can be great assets to our health journey. I especially believe they are incredibly valuable on our trying to conceive journey. Generally, it is recommended you perform a full detox approximately 3-6 months prior to conception. The reason behind this is because it allows your body to eliminate the toxins without harming the unborn child.
Your body will be ridding the liver of toxins during this time. While that is the liver’s job daily, it can become clogged or overwhelmed. In today’s world, there are chemicals in just about anything we use or consume. It can be found on the outside of the fruit you buy at the store, in your make-up, in your home cleaners, and the laundry soap you use. Eliminating toxins is important and should be done for your overall health. Reducing your toxin load is a good start for trying to conceive. Honestly, even if you have done all those things and are living as green as possible, you should still do a fertility detox to prepare for baby!
What is a Fertility Detox?
While detoxing supports the liver health, a fertility detox will also support uterine health. The liver will eliminate excess hormones during this time. Your uterus will tone, increase blood flow, and rid itself of old buildup it may be holding onto. This creates the best environment for your sticky bean to nestle in. It is important to note that you should not do any type of cleanse or detox while you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. The toxins being eliminated during this process will be exposed to your child.
If you have been on hormonal birth control, even if it has been some time, a fertility detox will help get rid of the remaining synthetic hormones that are used in it. Diets full of processed foods can leave behind toxins too and will be removed during this process. After doing a fertility detox, you should be eating a healthy diet to support your body.
When choosing what kind of detox to do, it is important to make sure you are doing one that is specifically going to support your fertility health. A detox that promotes liver health, circulation to the uterus, and uterine health are crucial to do prior to conception. This will ensure a healthy environment free of toxic buildup.
Fertility detoxes are more gentle on your body than a traditional cleanse. They also involve actual food and supplements rather than a juice cleanse. Protein is a vital source of nutrients and doing just a fruit and veggie cleanse will not provide your body the support it needs for a fertility detox.
Fertility Detox Know How
This is the best time to switch to a fertility diet to improve your fertility. This will provide your body with the nourishment needed for conception and beyond. It will also work with your body to release the toxins and replace it with healthy substances. Make sure you are not taking any birth control during this time. It can disrupt your hormones to do a detox and being on synthetic hormones while doing this is not advised.
You should also refrain from actively trying to conceive during this time. As mentioned above, you want your body to be free of toxins prior to conception. Also, any supplements taken during the detox are often not advised to consume during pregnancy.
In addition to eating a fertility diet, there are many herbs that are beneficial to promote the detox process. Herbs such as:
- Milk thistle seed
- dandelion root
- ginger root
- raspberry leaf
These are just to name a few and should not be used without proper support. ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING ANY NEW SUPPLEMENTS. This is especially important if you are taking any prescribed medications to check for adverse reactions.
