With the New Year, many people are throwing out the term “cleanse” more often to reset their health goals. But what does that mean exactly? A cleanse is a way to allow your body to naturally detox itself from toxins found in the junk we eat and the products we use. Our bodies detox themselves on their own, but only if we are providing it with the proper nutrition it needs to function.

You will find many people touting the benefits of a juice cleanse or a sugar detox, but what your body truly needs is proper nutrition through real food.  During this time, you can eliminate foods to see if they are adversely affecting your health. However, it is important to check with your medical provider before changing your diet too drastically, especially if you are on any medications or have any medical conditions. Not everyone needs to avoid grains or gluten.
