5 Essential Oils for the Gut

Essential oils can assist your bodily functions for many things. They can be used in combination with diet and supplements to provide your body the support it needs. Essential oils cannot be a cure for a disease or illness but rather used to support the bodily system in helping to fight against them. Today, we are going to discuss oils that help aid the digestive system. For Young Living Essential Oils, there are probiotics and other digestive support supplements you can combine with the oils to help build your immunity and provide your gut the best fighting chance of staying healthy and balanced.

Frankincense

Steam distillation process is done on the resin from this plant to produce the frankincense oil. It is known as a holy oil, which was used in sacrificial ceremonies. Today, it is used in the following ways:

  • Help reduce stress and depression symptoms
  • Help boost the immune system
  • Is an antiseptic
  • Helps skin tone and elasticity and can help minimize the appearance of scars or stretch marks and help with dry skin.
  • Aids in hormone balance
  • Aids in digestion
  • Can act as a sleep aid
  • Helps in the decrease of inflammation or pain that affect muscles, joints, or tendons.

Ginger

Ginger’s rhizomes are steam distilled to create the essential oil. Historically it was used to ward off epidemic outbreaks, soothe stomach upset, and relieve congestion through foods, wine, teas, and tonics. Uses for ginger include:

  • Menstrual issues
  • Respiratory conditions

Peppermint

Peppermint is also steam distilled from the leaves, stems, and flower buds of the plant. It is often associated with digestive issues and added to teas and hard candies to help soothe. It is one of my favorite oils to reach for. I personally use it for headache relief and helping provide a boost of energy or keeping me focused on projects. Ways to use peppermint can be:

  • Calming stomach aches
  • Soothe stomach issues
  • Helps freshen breath
  • Helps headaches subside
  • Antimicrobial
  • Improve mental focus
  • Aid clearing of the respiratory tract and provide allergy relief
  • Boost energy
  • Help reduce hunger pangs

Fennel

Fennel is extracted from the crushed seeds in a steam distillation process. Ancient Egyptians and Romans are believed to award garlands of fennel to soldiers as it is thought to provide strength, longevity, and courage. There are several uses for this essential oil. They include:

  • Toning female reproductive system
  • Soothe earaches
  • Help with hunger pains and boost metabolism
  • Heal wounds due to antiseptic nature
  • Prevent or reduce spasms of the gut
  • High in antioxidants and antimicrobial features
  • Help clear bowels, relieve gas and constipation

DiGize

DiGize is a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli. It is offered through Young Living and aids in improving digestion function. Some of the uses for this blend include:

  • Relieving indigestion
  • Reduction in stomach cramps/upset stomach
  • Reduction in morning sickness symptoms
  • Aiding in sluggish digestion
  • Help with nausea
  • Aid in constipation or diarrhea
  • Calm the digestive system
